A tasting day at Greystone Wineries attracted some 60 visitors to the winery this weekend for a beautiful day showcasing the winery and surrounding region.
Aimed at Greystone’s wine club members, visitors were welcomed with morning coffee before heading into the vineyard to try grapes straight off the vine and learn more about viticulture from manager and founding viticulturist Nick Gill. As well as hearing about the intricacies and science of growing good grapes, visitors learnt about the different varieties grown at Greystone (pinot noir and chardonnay). They also saw the harvest in full swing, with the grapes being hand-picked ready for processing.
Finally, visitors followed a short walking trail to find a delicious al fresco luncheon catered by Jonny Schwass’ BBQ and, of course, accompanied by Greystone wines.
It was a great example of how our North Canterbury wineries are showcasing their passion for what they do and in doing so, giving visitors a glimpse of our beautiful region as well.
