The structured planning of 8 hectares of land for business use provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for businesses to take advantage of a unique vision that combines business and community. The Kaiapoi Town Centre Plan 2028 and Beyond has been adopted after significant community input into its development. This provides a framework to redevelop the Kaiapoi town centre and create an exciting location for community and business. The developments planned for the 'mixed use business area' will truly enhance Kaiapoi as a place to live and create a unique visitor experience.

The WHoW Charitable Trust has proposed the establishment of a major tourism attraction and community facility in Kaiapoi. This would be established on 16 hectares of land that was previously housing near the town centre.

This project is still in a very early stage and in the process of working with council around what is needed for the project to be successfully enacted.

A pre-feasibility study performed in late 2019 showed that this project appeared feasable and would mostly attract domestic tourism from across New Zealand. The trust aim for the facility to open in 2023.
