The Waimakariri District Council serves a community of nearly 60,000 that is experiencing rapid growth. This growth, along with changes in New Zealand's resource management legislation and increasing community expectations, has made water management one of the biggest issues in the Waimakariri District.
This is a new role within Council, looking at extending into the space between water infrastructure and the natural environment. We are looking for someone with knowledge of water policy in New Zealand and a genuine desire to achieve improved environmental, ecological and cultural outcomes for the community. The successful candidate will be relationship-driven and will foster a collaborative and supportive culture with internal and external stakeholders. Having an understanding of how local government operates will be a distinct advantage in this role but it will also require someone who has foresight to evolve and adapt where necessary.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and skilled professional who is passionate about the environment and wants to make a difference for the community. The successful candidate will help to shape the Council's role and direction in managing the water environment in the District. This position will work across many Council teams and collaborate with other regional and national organisations e.g. Waimakariri Water Zone Committee, Environment Canterbury and Ministry for the Environment.
This is a permanent, full-time position with the responsibility of advising Council on water environment matters within the Waimakariri District. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant who has the right attitude as well as the relevant and proven experience.
With a range of outdoor activities on your doorstep, the Waimakariri District is an ideal location to work, live and play. Whatever your choice of living environment, it is readily available and affordable in the Waimakariri.
If you have the appropriate skills, experience and attitude to fulfil the requirements of this position, and you want to be on our team, then get in touch because we want to hear from you.
For more information on the position contact Kalley Simpson, 3 Waters Manager, on 0800 965 468 (0800 WMKGOV).
