Patoa Farm

This position would suit someone who has experience working on a commercial farm. On farm training will also be provided.

We are wanting people who are looking for the opportunity to develop a career as a stockperson in the pig industry and looking for a long term position. Applicants must be willing to relocate to the Hurunui.

Applicants must:

  • Be physically fit and have a full drivers licence
  • Have a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrate maturity and honesty
  • Have empathy for animals and experience with large animals.
  • Be reliable
  • Be willing to talk proactively about the work they are doing and enjoy helping others to achieve the days tasks
  • Demonstrate respect for others in their team and support management
  • Be able to demonstrate experience working in a commercial pig operation or other relevant experience.

Daily activities include:

  • Feeding stock and maintaining feeding equipment
  • Assessing body condition and animal health
  • Ensuring the sows and piglets have access to clean water, and dry bedding at all times.
  • Driving a variety of farm vehicles including quad bikes, tractors and utility vehicles.
  • Carrying out A.I. on a weekly basis
  • Medicating and recording information about sick or injured animals.
  • Process litters including cross fostering as required to ensure each piglet has adequate milk to grow.
  • Recording accurately every day the details of production and location of each sow and piglet on farm.
  • Ensuring equipment is well maintained and driven safely
  • Following Standard Operating procedures
  • Supporting teammates and management to ensure all work is completed before leaving work
  • Contributing to a positive work culture

Migrant applicants must have an agricultural qualification and a minimum of 2 year's pig production experience. Applicants must already be eligible to work in New Zealand, no work VISA's can be obtained at this time.

Hourly rate is based on experience.
