Library Assistant - Customer Services

We are looking for an energetic person with customer service experience and strong IT and interpersonal skills to fill a permanent part-time library assistant position with the Waimakariri Libraries. New technologies mean that library staff work alongside customers rather than across a desk and so the ability to think on your feet while demonstrating an enthusiastic and welcoming manner is vital.

This position of 26 hours per week, Saturday to Wednesday, will be based primarily at the Rangiora Library.

The successful applicant will have an aptitude for meeting the information, reading and recreational needs of customers. The skills for supporting a diverse range of people in their use of technologies; enthusiasm for maintaining the library's equipment and systems; and the ability to assist in delivering library, information and digital literacy programmes for children and adults; are desired.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • a genuine interest in meeting and helping people of all ages and backgrounds
  • the skills to work in busy conditions and tight timeframes
  • the ability and endurance to perform the physical aspects and work-rate of the job to the standard required and in a safe manner
  • the skills to assist customers in their use of technologies
  • awareness of, or experience with, library management systems and technologies
  • the ability to interact well with others and enjoy being part of a team
