Waimakariri District is one of the fastest growing Districts in New Zealand and the fourth largest, by population, in the South Island. This brings with it abundant challenges across a diverse range of areas. The Waimakariri District Council are looking for a new Governance Advisor with the ability to work effectively across a wide range of issues.
The successful applicant will be working in a busy, professional team that provides support to our elected members. You will be responsible for providing advice to staff and elected members, producing agendas and minutes for a range of meetings, and attending an array of meetings from Community Boards, to hearings and committees, not to mention the civic functions such as Citizenship ceremonies.
You will be the key point of contact with three Community Boards, providing support and advice to the Chairpersons and attending evening monthly meetings.
To be successful in this position you will need to have proven knowledge and experience in governance and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking, relationship management and team work, as well as a skilled minute taker. A strong understanding and pragmatic approach to legislation, particularly LGOIMA, LGA and LEA would be an advantage as would a working knowledge of Standing Orders. You will need to have at least five years relevant experience in Local Government.

This full time position involves attending several monthly meetings after normal business hours (i.e. evenings up to 10.30pm) however flexible working conditions will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
