The 2021 North Canterbury Business Awards judges are very experienced, carefully selected business and social development experts who have an excellent understanding of business operations, specifically in the Canterbury region. They all have a wide and varied background in many aspects of business ownership, social development and management and they bring their exceptional knowledge and expertise to the awards judging role.


Steve Wilkinson

Steve Wilkinson Business Awards Judge 2018 cropSteve brings to the judging panel over 30 years’ experience in CEO and General Management roles with small to medium sized businesses in New Zealand and Australia.

His broad commercial skill set has been developed through a wide variety of industries including banking and finance, automotive, hospitality and property. His responsibilities have ranged from developing and managing the execution of strategic plans to financial management to developing, motivating and managing staffing levels from 10-200.

In addition, Steve has gained board room experience through chairing both Enterprising Manukau and Touch New Zealand over a combined period of 12 years. During this time he gained valuable insight into the key differences between the governance and operational aspects of a business.

Now the owner of The Alternative Board in Christchurch city, Steve is using his background and experience to provide much needed coaching and support to the business community of Canterbury.


Debs Taylor-Hayhurst

 

Debs Profile Pic 2021Debs brings to the judging panel over 35 years’ experience in CEO and senior management roles in UK and NZ in the statutory and social enterprise arena, and a business owner in UK and NZ.

A consultant, coach, and mentor of Success Factor Consultancy & Coaching Ltd since 2016, Debs provides holistic support to small and medium businesses, new business set-ups and those who have an idea or concept they wish to get off the ground.

Her services have a customised client-led, strengths-focused, and results-based approach where the personal and professional needs are met, as well as the operational and strategic aspects, to ensure business owners succeed financially whilst also meeting their personal needs.

Debs also uses her academic qualifications (MBA) and career experience to empower business owners to grow their businesses, inspiring them to reach their full potential to be the best version of themselves using a creative, motivational and inspirational style to encourage clients to think outside the square to gain new-found confidence.

 


Brian Davey

 

BrianBrian brings to the panel many years of experience in both national and international sales and management within a wide range of industries. Brian has conducted business in some 60 countries, spending five years based in both China and the UK, developing excellent communication skills and multi-cultural understanding along the way. 

Having managed businesses in start-up, growth, maturity and decline phases this has provided him with invaluable insight into the operational requirements throughout this progression.  

Business is all about building trusting relationships and this is something Brian takes very seriously. Being a good listener, with a high level of emotional intelligence, and keeping the best interests of his clients and colleagues as his focus, has resulted in Brian building and maintaining a wide network. 

Now working in the Industrial and Commercial Real Estate industry, with a focus on North Canterbury, Brian is also Chair of the Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust helping our people and businesses meet their full potential.
