Never heard of the North Canterbury Business Awards before? Wondering what all the buzz is about? Read on to find the answers to all your burning awards questions!
Taking place every two years, the awards are North Canterbury’s premier business event and celebrate all that is great about business in North Canterbury. We honour the best businesses in our region and bring the business community together for a great night out at the awards ceremony.
Past entrants have told us that the application process was hugely rewarding in itself, giving them a chance to sit down and reflect on where they have come from, what they have achieved and where they are headed. Winners have reported improved staff morale, increased awareness of their business and subsequent increases in sales and partnerships. Entrants and winners have also told of gaining a stronger feeling of participation in the North Canterbury business community, meeting other business owners and finding out about other local businesses that they weren’t aware of. And of course, winners gain the glory of being crowned the best in the region!
Enterprise North Canterbury welcomes entry nominations to begin with. This is an opportunity for members of the public to nominate businesses that they feel would do well in the awards. If your business is nominated, a member of our team will be in touch with all of the necessary information about entering. You can nominate your own business to ensure you receive all of the necessary information, or you can wait until award entries open on May 2nd and start from there, gathering the information you need from our website.
The entry process involves filling out an online form with a lot of in-depth information about your business. It is expected that the entry process will take a number of hours overall (you can save and come back later as we know you are busy!) but as mentioned, entrants find this process in itself hugely rewarding and view it as a chance to sit down and look really closely at their business operations. All entries then go to our panel of expert judges who will decide category winners and finalists, all of whom will be announced at the Gala Evening on August 31st.
It’s free to enter the awards – the only cost to you is time. All finalists will be given the opportunity to be included in our paid advertising features closer to the event date, and you will also need to purchase a Gala ticket if you wish to attend.
Businesses of all types and sizes compete in the business awards, from small one-man-bands to major franchises employing hundreds of people. We judge each business on their merits, taking into account the size, age and support available to each business. We measure your business against where we would expect it to be at the current stage rather than by size or maturity. This means that a small business has just as much chance of winning as bigger, more mature businesses, as long as they are run well and are achieving their goals.
The 2018 North Canterbury Business Awards judges are Leone Evans, Keith Harris and Steve Wilkinson. All of our judges are very experienced, carefully selected business experts who have an excellent understanding of business operations, specifically in the Canterbury region. They all have a wide and varied background in many aspects of business ownership, development and management and they bring their exceptional business knowledge and expertise to the awards judging role. In short, the fun part! The Gala Evening is an exclusive black-tie event where all of the award winners are announced and all of the awards are presented. With a special guest MC, live music and fine dining, it is always a hugely entertaining evening and an excellent networking opportunity. This year the Gala Evening will be held on August 31st at Ohoka Hall. Tickets will be available for purchase from May 2nd.
