Waimakariri District event organisers are being invited to apply for up to $5,000 of financial support for their event as the 2018 Waimakariri Event Fund gets underway.

Applications for the year’s first round of funding are open from March 1st to 31st and offer local event organisers the chance to secure a share of the $30,000 fund to support the coordination or promotion of their Waimakariri-based event.

The fund, which is provided by the Waimakariri District Council, managed by Enterprise North Canterbury and administered by Visit Waimakariri, has been operating for over 10 years and has supported the development and growth of numerous local events including the Pegasus Bay Art Show, Rangiora Santa Parade, House of Travel Triathlon Festival and the Kaiapoi Fire & Ice Night Market.

Fire & Ice Night Market organisers Andrew and Michael Blackwell applied for funding in 2017 to assist with the growth of their already popular event.

“It was great to get the funding as there is a major cost to run the event,” explains Andrew. “Each year more and more people have come along and the Fire & Ice Market is looking good for the future.”

Visit Waimakariri Co-ordinator Melanie Cox says all local event organisers that fit the criteria should consider applying, regardless of the size of their event.

“Whilst the fund has supported some well-known and large events over the years, it is open to events of all sizes and budgets,” she says.

“There are so many great events in the Waimakariri District and we are hoping to hear of some new ones as applications start to come in.”

Applications close at 5pm on March 31st, 2018 and the second funding round will open in August 2018.
