Local electricity lines company and ENC Sponsor, MainPower New Zealand Limited, is inviting the North Canterbury community to vote for who they think should receive a share of their $30,000 contestable fund.

A range of charitable groups and schools have been named as finalists, after the nomination stage closed at the end of August.

MainPower Chief Executive Andy Lester says the initiative attracted hundreds of nominations.

The $30,000 fund will be split between the groups and schools that receive the most votes, with $20,000 available for charitable organisations and $10,000 allocated to North Canterbury schools and education providers.

Mr Lester says the finalists represent a variety of different activities, including conservation projects, social service providers and community events.

“The thing they all have in common is that they’re doing inspirational and positive things for the region,” he adds.

“It’s now up to North Canterbury to decide where this funding is directed. We encourage everyone to get behind their favourite causes and vote.”
