A North Canterbury health solutions company has won an international start-up award in Singapore.

Rangiora-based VitalityNZ took home the Nutraceutical Start-Up of the Year Award at the 2019 NutraIngredients-Asia Awards on September 24th. The awards attracted over 100 entries, vying for recognition as the best nutraceutical products, ingredients and research projects in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. 

VitalityNZ Director David Eder, who attended the awards with co-directors Jim Grierson and Michael Dunsire, said the company was thrilled with the win.

“We were really stoked that a small New Zealand company with all-natural products won against some large international companies.

“There has been a very positive New Zealand response to this award, which has been humbling.”

The award judges said they were impressed with VitalityNZ’s commitment to research, its product range and its ambitious expansion plans. NutraIngredients-Asia Editor-in-Chief Gary Scattergood said, “The weight of scientific evidence behind the company’s products is highly impressive, as is its strategy for achieving commercial success not only in its homeland, but also across the region. It is a very worthy winner of our Start-Up Award.”

The company was also a finalist in the Botanical Product of the Year and the Personalised Nutrition Initiative categories at this year’s awards.

VitalityNZ produces a range of health products containing New Zealand blackcurrants including nutrients for muscle, skin, eyesight, woman’s and brain health. Their products are backed by thorough independent scientific research, and they recently made headlines with a world-first discovery that found a key nutrient in New Zealand blackcurrants that is proven to delay brain ageing.

The directors agree that this award will be key to growing their market.

“We entered because we had a strong desire to mark our product range against global markets and competing products,” explains David.  

“The win has raised our profile from an international aspect and has enabled us to enter into discussions with APAC and global marketing companies. We see this win as an important stepping stone to further growth, both domestically and globally.”

As well as their head office in Rangiora, VitalityNZ now has a Singapore office.
