Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC) has secured $200,000 from the Government’s Provincial Growth Capacity Building Fund with which to progress the North Canterbury food and beverage sector.

Part of the funds will go towards the fixed-term employment of a new Food and Beverage Business Development Manager who will be tasked with collaborating with private and public agencies, iwi and members of the sector to form an industry group to support and promote the sector going forward.

ENC Chief Executive Heather Warwick says “ENC has spent the past year developing a local strategic partner group in the food and beverage sector. This group has a strong desire to grow sales of local product at a sustainable price point. They have identified a number of areas in which they need assistance to achieve this goal such as brand positioning, marketing, distribution and supply logistics and business opportunities.

“ENC’s Food and Beverage Business Development Manager will work with the group to achieve these goals and create a solid North Canterbury industry group that can ultimately support itself.”

Ms Warwick says the new role is essential for providing a direction to the burgeoning food and beverage sector in North Canterbury.

“The North Canterbury region, from Kaikōura all the way down to the Waimakariri River, has an incredible array of food and beverage producers. Bringing these businesses together to promote our wonderful food and beverage products will increase sales for small local businesses, bring people to our region and ultimately benefit the whole regional economy.”
