Two new trustees have been appointed to the Enterprise North Canterbury Board and will start in the new year.

Local business operators Holly Sterne (pictured, right) and Clare Giffard (pictured, left) will take up their new trustee roles in February 2018.

Enterprise North Canterbury operates as a Trust established by the Waimakariri and Hurunui District Councils. The aim of the Trust is to ensure that North Canterbury is an ‘innovative and progressive region where businesses and families work, live, play and prosper’. The Trust comprises ten staff and a number of voluntary trustees.

As a long-time North Canterbury resident and business owner, Clare – who currently operates Flat White Café Bar in Pegasus, Urban Revival Café in Silverstream and SanDona Lodge in Ohoka – hopes to bring enthusiasm and passion for the region to the role.

“I’m keen to see the region grow, along with the expansion of regional awareness to others. We have a fabulous region and I’m keen to share it,” said Giffard.

“I’m a vibrant, busy person, full of enthusiasm for North Canterbury. I enjoy the personal aspect of the region and I want to bring some of that to the trustee role as we work to support and develop local opportunities.”

Holly, who comes from a banking background, is the General Manager and Company Director of Patoa Farms in Hawarden. She was inspired to apply for the trustee role so that she could be involved in the support of small businesses and community development.

“Having a family business here has made me develop a passion for seeing our local communities flourish socially and economically. To be part of the board is a privilege and a great way to be able to invest in other businesses in our area. Businesses are made up of people and those individuals are the backbone of a great community,” said Sterne.

She adds that she is looking forward to applying her strategic thinking, business contacts and her agricultural enterprise perspective to build on the success of the current Board and seek out further development opportunities.

ENC Board Chairman Nick Harris said, “We were thrilled to have had such a high calibre of local business people seeking the role of ENC Trustee. Holly and Clare both have a passion for their region. Clare is a well-respected local entrepreneur and Holly a young, aspiring Trustee and one of the largest employers in North Canterbury.”

The new Trustees will commence their role on February 7th, 2018.
