A new business networking event in North Canterbury is bolstering the region’s networking offerings, which already includes over eight different business networking groups.

Connect, Collaborate, Caffeinate – a casual monthly get-together - started in December. Event organiser and Director of local PR agency Real Communications Gina McKenzie explains, “The idea is for people to find common connections at the events and then collaborate on their own ideas or projects through the connections they make. Everyone with an interest in supporting business in North Canterbury is welcome to attend.”

Like other networking groups in the region, the event is capturing a diverse population. “We have business owners, managers, students, entrepreneurs, retired business owners, people wanting to start a business and local business agencies at the event. We have a mix of people from North Canterbury and those from Christchurch who want to learn more about business in the area,” says Gina.

Other networking groups in North Canterbury are targeted at specific sub-sections or specialised areas of business. Venus Network, for example, is aimed at women in business, whereas the likes of Oxford Promotions’ Action Committee, Kaiapoi Promotions’ Association and Rangiora Promotions’ Association focus on business in their specific location.

Business Development Manager at Enterprise North Canterbury, Miles Dalton, says business networking is an essential component in the development of any business.

“Business is all about relationships. And relationships with other businesses can really help you as an owner,” says Miles.

“Networking with complimentary businesses leads to referrals both ways and a better level of service offered by both businesses. But very importantly, it’s just nice to talk with other business owners. Owning a business can be a bit lonely, and it can be very therapeutic to know that other people are experiencing the same issues as you.”

Enterprise North Canterbury also offers several networking events throughout the year, with their next event occurring in March.
