Outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Macpac has confirmed it will keep its doors open in Rangiora following a four month trial.

Macpac opened a pop-up store on High Street in May 2019 with a view to testing the local market.

Macpac’s Head of Marketing, Nadia Scott, says the trial was well supported by the local community.

“The community has reacted really positively to the Macpac pop-up store. People have loved having a local go-to for all of their outdoor gear needs. We’re aware of the growth in North Canterbury and it makes sense to us to be present where our customers are, rather than expecting them to travel to us,” she says.

“We’re thrilled that the pop-up has been well supported by the wider Rangiora community and that, commercially, it is the right decision to remain here.”

The store will remain in its current position on the corner of High Street and Conway Lane. However, the tenancy will eventually be split into two, with Macpac taking the High Street frontage.

Nadia says the store will typically employ five people on an ongoing basis, and shoppers can expect the same high-quality, environmentally friendly and purpose-built clothing and equipment that Macpac has been producing since 1973.

Enterprise North Canterbury Business Support Manager Miles Dalton says the fact that Macpac had the opportunity to test the waters and still opted for a permanent shop shows the strength of the local economy.

“We are thrilled that a well-established and well-known brand such as Macpac has not only chosen to invest in North Canterbury, but has had the rare opportunity of testing the local market before committing, thereby proving that an investment in Rangiora is commercially worthwhile.”

Macpac Rangiora is located at 188 High Street.
