The new Lumino Dentist practice in Rangiora will be located on the first floor of the post office and Loose Change building on High Street.

The space is just under 150 sq metres says practice owner and dentist Ben Harris.  It will initially have two consulting rooms, expanding to four rooms as the practice builds up and the fit out is a test case for a study Lumino has recently done on improving the patient experience.  This will include features such as non-clinical style consultation areas designed to provide a more relaxing environment.

Originally from North Canterbury, Harris currently has three practices in Christchurch but has long wanted to open one in his home area.  However, his decision to go ahead with a Rangiora practice was based on good business potential not just his ties to the district.

A ‘back of the envelope’ calculation he says is that Christchurch has one dentist per 2000 people, whilst the ratio in North Canterbury is closer to one dentist per 4000 people.  In addition Harris says “We did some good mapping of the best places to be located, we liked the potential of growth in the region and we did some serious number crunching”.

The team will initially consist of three dentists, including Harris, working rotating days alongside other support staff.  Several of the team are North Canterbury residents and are delighted at the prospect of being able to work locally says Harris.

The practice is due to open in mid-August says Harris and they are looking forward to becoming part of the Rangiora landscape.
