The first residents at Ravenswood are now living in their brand new home and say they are loving their new location in the Waimakariri.

Matthew and Jodi Firman were living in Hamilton when they decided to buy a section in 2016 in the first stage of the residential area at Ravenswood so they could be nearer to family. Matthew’s parents had also purchased a section at Ravenswood and the idea of living closer to each other really appealed to both couples.

In December 2018, after several years living in rental accommodation with flatmates and saving hard for their own home, their dream of home ownership became a reality.

Matthew, a personal trainer, and Jodi, a physiotherapist, say they love the proximity to a choice of nearby beaches and all the running and walking tracks on offer in the area. They chose Ravenswood over Christchurch because the sections were so much more affordable and for all the other great recreational opportunities available in the Waimakariri district.

They also love the fact that the community will have its own retail shopping centre and supermarket along with two childcare centres.

Matthew and Jodi were joined by Ravenswood’s second resident, Richard Cloughley, in late December and with 54 homes now under construction in the first stage, it is only a matter of time before lots more neighbours join them.

A Ravenswood community Facebook page has already started up, which Matthew and Jodi have joined, with section owners already communicating with each other through this.

Stage 1A of the Ravenswood residential area, with 93 lots, is sold out and titled. Stage 1B with 104 lots is under construction and titles are expected in July. Around 9 sections remain for sale in this stage. Stage 2 residential lots are now for sale.

In the commercial area, BP Connect and Wild Bean Café along with McDonald’s are already open, with New World planning to start building the supermarket this year.
