North Canterbury’s only dedicated business centre is celebrating its fourth anniversary this month.
The ENC Business Centre opened in December 2015 in the PLC clocktower building on Williams Street in Kaiapoi. Home to the region’s economic development agency Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC), which includes Visit Waimakariri and the Kaiapoi i-SITE Visitor Information Centre, the ENC Business Centre also offers drop-in workspaces and bookable meeting rooms with free high-speed wi-fi.
ENC Chief Executive Heather Warwick says each anniversary of the centre’s opening is a time to reflect on the success of the facility and the support of the local sponsors that make the Business Centre possible.
“The creation and ongoing development of the ENC Business Centre wouldn’t be possible without the generous sponsorship of our corporate sponsor, MainPower,” says Heather. “MainPower committed to this project from the get-go and have continued their support, providing a space for local businesses to meet, grow and learn. Our staff operate from this building, supporting businesses throughout North Canterbury, and MainPower’s contribution is key to all that we do for local business.”
MainPower New Zealand General Manager Customer and Corporate Relations Penny Kibblewhite says the organisation is proud to have a longstanding partnership with Enterprise North Canterbury.
“We see a great benefit in having an organisation dedicated to promoting economic development in our region. We want to see our region grow and prosper and through our support of Enterprise North Canterbury we know they are able to share expertise, connect people and encourage innovation,” she said.
Heather says the centre’s two silver sponsors Spark Business Canterbury and BDO have also been on board from the start. “We are so proud to be supported by and working with such prominent and trustworthy local names in business, and we’re thrilled that they see the ENC Business Centre as a long-term investment to assist in local business development.”
Bronze sponsors Hazeldine Construction, Hellers and PLC Group have also committed to the Business Centre since 2015, with an additional seven bronze sponsors joining since. These are Hire Access, Ray White Morris & Co Real Estate, JOYN, The Learning Staircase, Ravenswood, Misco Joinery and Meridian.
The last year has seen the ENC Business Centre host over 60 half-day business training courses, secure more than 200 conference room and meeting room bookings from organisations from around the country and make over $250,000 in sales through the Kaiapoi i-SITE Visitor Information Centre.
“Working from this central space, with easy access to the rest of North Canterbury allows the ENC team to get their job done effectively and efficiently, whether it’s meeting with local businesses to provide free assessments, connecting business operators with training discounts or grants, supporting them through growth or development, or providing business training events,” explains Heather.
“I am proud of the success of our organisation, and the services that the ENC Business Centre allows us to provide the local business community. We look forward to continuing our services from the ENC Business Centre for many years to come.”
