A new wellbeing initiative is being launched in North Canterbury next month, aimed at local businesses.
‘Take an Hour for Wellbeing’ will launch in October and is organised by Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust. The initiative invites business owners to offer their staff one ‘wellbeing hour’ at a mutually agreed time and day in exchange for a $10 donation towards the Trust’s services. In return, the Trust will promote the business as a ‘Community Wellbeing Champion’ across their various media platforms.
Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust Manager Deirdre Ryan says, “We envisage that the wellbeing hour would involve any activity that will truly enhance wellbeing. For example, more family time, a gym visit, a walk or even an hour of extra sleep.
“As an employer, the wellbeing of our employees is vital to the success of the business. We see this as a great opportunity for business owners to offer their staff some time for themselves, and for staff to contribute to our charity which serves the wellbeing of the entire North Canterbury region.”
Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust has been operating for 30 years and supports local families to reach their full potential through free wellbeing services across the Waimakariri and Hurunui Districts.
“Our support for families focuses on enhancing strengths, removing barriers and helping people meet life’s challenges,” explains Deirdre.
The Trust’s free services include community youth workers, a community pantry, family counselling services including youth drug and alcohol services, restorative justice services, Karanga Mai early childhood education and in-home social work support, among other vital services.
“As a charitable trust, we rely on donations in order to keep providing our free support to families across the Hurunui and Waimakariri Districts.
“Take an Hour for Wellbeing will not only invite people to donate, but will reiterate what we are all about: the wellbeing of the residents of our region.”
Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust recently won the Community Enterprise Award at the 2018 North Canterbury Business Awards, with the judges calling the Trust “A reliable, well-run and critical part of the North Canterbury social fabric.”
