When Enterprise North Canterbury CEO Heather Warwick coined the idea for a central Business Centre with meeting facilities, she never dreamed it would be used for as diverse an array of events as it has hosted so far.

In the two years since it opened, the Waimakariri Conference Room - located inside the ENC Business Centre in central Kaiapoi - has so far hosted board meetings, Christmas functions, business training courses, networking events and even a real estate auction.

“The diversity has surprised us,” says Ms Warwick. “Obviously the room was designed as a conference space, but it’s versatility, location and price have attracted a whole host of event organisers who have seen the potential for something different. It’s fantastic!”

Later this month, the Waimakariri Conference Room will welcome its first ever crowd-funding information evening, hosted by Eagle Brewing NZ as they aim to attract investors for their new brew pub.

Marilyn Yosores from Eagle Brewing said, “The central location – right across from our new site – as well as the evening booking hours and the spacious room were all drawcards for us when searching for the right place to host our event.”

The Waimakariri Conference Room is one of three meeting rooms available for hire at the ENC Business Centre on the corner of Williams and Charles Streets in Kaiapoi. The centre also offers drop-in public workspaces with free wi-fi, charging ports, and printing and photocopying facilities.

The Business Centre was opened in December 2015 and has so far seen over 400 bookings across the three rooms.

“Our online reservation system, evening, morning and weekend booking opportunities and affordable rates all help in attracting new customers and encouraging repeat bookings,” says Ms Warwick.

“We’ve already got a number of training sessions and meetings locked in for 2018 and we’re excited to see what other new events will be booked in this year.”
