The recently opened KURI centre on Lineside Road offers doggy daycare and a host of other canine related services, advice and information.  We caught up with founder and director, Geoff Bowers, to find out what brought them to Rangiora and how they’re getting on.

Why did you decide to bring KURI to Rangiora?

KURI has been looking to expand due to its success at our Airport and City centre branches.  We knew North Canterbury needed a fully equipped, air-conditioned indoor facility for daycare, training and grooming plus a store offering the very best products as the dog population was expanding rapidly.

How did you find the search for premises in Rangiora?

Trying to find a premises in North Canterbury that met all our requirements was difficult. We couldn’t initially find premises that comply with the new specifications including council regulations for noise etc.

However, after some searching we found the perfect place on Lineside Road.  It was selected for its location, it is close to town, on a main road to Christchurch so commuters can drop off and pick up on their way to and from work.

Looking at the latest census told us 47.5% of people travel to Christchurch every day for work, so it made perfect sense

How many people are employed at KURI?

We currently have 4 staff employed at the Rangiora centre.  A centre supervisor, a daycare supervisor, a groomer plus we have trainers who attend for assessments, and training sessions. This will increase when the number of people using the centre increases. 

How has the first month been in your new premises?

We did a soft opening last month as we were still waiting for some of our stock, equipment and contractors to complete the fit out. Our offical launch is on Sunday the 28th May from 10am until 2pm. Everyone is welcome to come and see the new facility and what we offer.

We already have five regular dogs in daycare and the numbers are growing everyday. If it’s like our other centres within 6 months we will be near capacity.  The feedback has been extremely positive from our new customers and those people we have spoken too, so we look forward to serving the community for many years to come.
