Business confidence in North Canterbury is high despite the November earthquake, according to the latest Enterprise North Canterbury Business Opinion Survey, released this week.

Almost half of the respondents in the survey said that their business had been affected in some way by the significant earthquake event of November 14, 2016. However, 52% of those surveyed reported an increase in output or sales, and 47% of respondents expected profits to be up in April 2017.

Employment figures were also up, with 48% reporting an increase in the numbers employed over the survey period. This is the greatest proportion since surveying began almost four years ago.

Overall, business confidence is higher in North Canterbury than it is in wider New Zealand.
