The opportunity to part-own an award-winning brewery and brand new brewpub is nearly up, with Eagle Brewing NZ’s crowdfunding campaign finishing on April 18th.

The campaign kicked off on March 14th in an effort to attract investors to their new Kaiapoi development, The Port & Eagle Brewpub. At the time of writing, $111,610 – just under half of the $250,000 minimum target - had been pledged, with 10 campaign days left.

Eagle Brewing NZ owners Dave Gaughan and Marilyn Yosores opted to use the crowdfunding model for its inclusiveness. “Our shareholders will become not only part-owners but also customers and advocates. This project will offer our shareholders the opportunity to join a growing business in a growing community,” said Marilyn.

There are six levels of investment on offer, ranging from $500 - which includes part ownership of The Port & Eagle Brewpub, discounts, freebies and invitations to annual events including the AGM – right up to $40,000 or more, which allows for full voting shares in the brewpub and a generous array of discounts, free beer and use of the brewpub function facilities.

The award-winning brewery is currently located in a small commercial space on Riccarton Road in Christchurch, but the business outgrew its premises long ago and the small space has been hampering business growth.

“Our output has grown every year, but the constraints of our current premises mean that growth is slowing. That’s why we need to move,” explains David.

“We fell in love with the Riverview location as soon as we saw it, and we are committed to moving our expanding business into the region and creating a contemporary social hub for the growing North Canterbury community. We want to support this fantastic community by using local suppliers and employing local staff. Having local investors will only add to the high level of community involvement that we’re aiming for.”

The Port & Eagle Brewpub will be located in the new Riverview Terraces Development, currently being constructed on the banks of the Kaiapoi River in central Kaiapoi. As well as the contemporary 220m2 bar and eatery the premises will house a private function area which overlooks the 440m2 brewery. The boatshed-style building will include full glass frontage, to capitalize on its riverside location, as well as a riverside deck and outdoor courtyard.

Completion date for the development is late 2018.

Developer Jedd Pearce says the Port & Eagle Brewpub’s commitment has allowed the development to go ahead. “We’ve been working on the Riverview Terraces Development for four years and only with the commitment from The Port & Eagle Brewpub and Eagle Brewing can we make this all happen.

“The uniqueness of their offering will be a point of difference for Kaiapoi and they will need the continuing support of locals and the wider community. We are confident that their success will be a drawcard for all of Kaiapoi, attracting customers from far and wide and adding to the vibrancy of the Kaiapoi town centre.”
