Event organisers in the Waimakariri District are being encouraged to apply for up to $5,000 of financial support as the 2021 Waimakariri Event Fund gets underway.

Applications for the first round of funding open on March 1 and run until March 31. Successful applications will go to the event funding panel who will then distribute the $30,000 fund between events. Funding is allocated to events that clearly demonstrate economic and/or community benefit to the Waimakariri District, and the funding must go towards either the coordination or promotion of the event.  

The fund, which is provided by the Waimakariri District Council, managed by Enterprise North Canterbury and administered by Visit Waimakariri, has been operating for over 10 years. In that time it has supported the development and growth of numerous prominent local events including the Muddy Good Run, Happyhire’s Eats & Beats, Waimakariri Winter Festival and the Kaiapoi Art Expo.

Visit Waimakariri Events & District Promotions Administrator Lucy Harvey says, “The aim of the fund is to provide seed funding for new events to help get them off the ground. We also fund existing events which have an intention to grow attract more visitors.

“With the upheaval and cancellations of last year we are really looking forward to supporting a wide range of local events this year that will benefit the local economy, bring the community together and continue to make the Waimakariri District a fun place to live and visit.”

Applications close at 5pm on March 31, 2021. The second funding round will open on August 1.
