"To foster an exceptional North Canterbury by encouraging the development of exceptional infrastructure, businesses and experiences.”

Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC) was established by the Waimakariri and Hurunui District Councils in 2002 to promote economic development in North Canterbury and works alongside businesses to develop an innovative and prosperous region. The organisation promotes economic growth by providing support in three key areas:

Exceptional Infrastructure

ENC will engage with broadband and cellular providers to enhance broadband capability for North Canterbury with the objective of achieving earlier and more extensive rollout of broadband capability in the region.

Exceptional Business Support

ENC is committed to supporting and growing existing businesses by the provision of training, coaching, mentoring services and networking opportunities.

ENC issues NZTE Capability Development Vouchers as the local Regional Business Partner.

ENC organises and hosts the biennial Business Awards

ENC has a high level of understanding of the region, its local labour market conditions and economic confidence in North Canterbury

ENC assists the Hurunui District Council to fully understand the needs of small businesses in rural townships

Exceptional Experiences

ENC will promote the Waimakariri District to businesses and visitors through:

• Business Attraction - Promote the District to businesses looking to relocate, work with local developers and building owners seeking to attract commercial and retail businesses to stimulate the economic activity in the district

• Visitor Attraction – Market the District so that visitors are attracted to visit and spend in the District by the special experiences and attractions offered

• Events – Promote and support quality events which reinforce the strengths and brand of the District and are embraced by the community

• The Kaiapoi i-SITE – provide i-SITE services so visitors and residents receive timely, quality information and promotion advice that encourage them to visit and meet their information needs
