Background Information
Commuting Patterns
It is generally accepted that people don't always live and work in the same area, much as they would sometimes like to. The table below aims to show what the commuting patterns are in the area. Selwyn district and Christchurch City have been included as they are within commutable distance from North Canterbury.
| Workplace address | ||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hurunui | Waimakariri | Christchurch City | Selwyn | |||||
| No | % | No | % | No | % | No | % | |
| Hurunui Address | 3,789 | 80.5% | 264 | 5.6% | 540 | 11.5% | 27 | 0.6% |
| Waimakariri Address | 228 | 1.2% | 9,033 | 48.5% | 8,931 | 47.9% | 129 | 0.7% |
The table clearly shows that there is a big migration out of the district each day to go to work. When the North Canterbury Labour Market Strategy was developed, this was seen as a key area to address.
JobSearch
ENC have developed a JobSearch section on this site which aims to "helping local people into local jobs".
We would also encourage any people seeking employment in North Canterbury to contact us. They will then be asked to send their CV to us, which we will distribute (with their permission) to local agencies who can help.
