Look before you leap
There have been issues raised around those moving into rural areas with a lack of knowledge and understanding of how farms operate. A recent article in the Northern Outlook (August 12 2009) highlighted the concerns of a farmer in Waimakariri who had recently been investigated by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) about animal welfare on his farm following two unfounded complaints made by well meanining but mis informed members of the public.
The rural lifestyle may not suit all people, there are no volume controls on farm animals!! Waimakariri District council have begun the production of an Information Sheet which will be provided to all people making enquiries about moving to rural locations. if you would like a copy of this, please contact us and we will provide it when it is available.
