Business Confidence in North Canterbury
Recently ENC sought the views of a range of businesses in North Canterbury on the economic situation they face. Please read the full update prepared by Simon Markham the Manager Policy & Customer Service at the Waimakariri District Council.
Broadband in the region
As part of the Government's Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) 3 new Vodafone cellphone towers have been built and switched on in Ohoka, Leithfield and Waiau. A further five existing cell sites are to be upgraded in Cheviot, Culverden, Amberley/Balcairn, Greta Valley and Waipara.
Customers are encouraged to find out if this wireless service is available at their address by checking online www.vodafone.co.nz/rural-broadband.

There are approximately 8363 businesses in the North Canterbury Region employing 15 700 staff. Figures taken from the department of statistics website (www.stats.govt.nz) show the numbers of both businesses and the number of employees in those businesses growing steadily between 2002 and 2012;
