North Canterbury is home to over 800 000 ha of productive land which produces;  sheep, beef and dairy. There is also produce galore to be found around the region; fruit, vegetables, nuts to name but a few. Waipara Valley is home to a cluster of vineyards, although there are other smaller producers around the region.

Forestry

Approximately 48 percent of the plantation forests in the Canterbury wood supply region are in North Canterbury. Within North Canterbury, approximately 74 percent of the plantation forests are located in the Hurunui District, resulting in the District having approximately 35 percent of the Canterbury wood supply region's total plantation forest area
