Manufacturing
The manufacturing industry in North Canterbury has been steadily growing over the last decade. North Canterbury is now home to many manufacturing businesses who make a wide variety of products including milking equipment, boats, food, wine, nursery goods and much, much more.
Most of North Canterbury's manufacturers are also exporters and in some cases, their primary markets are overseas. They are also collectively, large employers in the district; figures from the 2006 census show that in total, the region employed 1,549 people in the manufacturing industry at that time. This represented 12 percent of the total workforce in the district at that time.
Businesses have grown and developed in the region since then and it is anticipated that this figure will have grown.
